Hi, I’m Sankar Datti, an AVP at IncNut Digital.
Today I would like to share insights from my journey over the past 6 years, and how we were able to build from 0 to 25+ million visitors for two of our sites Stylecraze.com & MomJunction.com in last 6 years.
Many Founders/entrepreneurs are spending a lot of money and time on SEO but hardly seeing any significant results.
Even I have been getting a lot of queries from SEO professionals, bloggers, founders & entrepreneurs that about how I was able to achieve 25+ million visitors per month from Google!
What are the tricks, hacks, secrets? Is it really possible?
This is my first step towards sharing my knowledge. Here is my first article which covered 7 major lessons that I learned in making 25 Million Visitors.
This post is a culmination of my hard work spanning more than a decade. Many late nights, long working schedules and algorithm changes were just like a roller coaster.
It is a long, 2000 word article And if you’re willing to go beyond just browsing— and are interested in reading every word—you’ll learn the SEO secrets I’ve been mastering for over twelve years.
Ready to dive in? Let’s get down to business!
1. Why Is Having A Roadmap So Important?
Call it a roadmap or a strategy, but have one. It is important to have a proper strategy for any SEO Project.
For the past one year, I have been meeting a lot of founders and SEOs. Everyone has the same problem. No clear idea of how much they have to spend on SEO and how long it will take to see results. How to plan and execute their plans.
SEO Results will actually depend on the competition of your niche and the budget you are going to spend on it.
As per my competitor analysis, I require 1000 articles to get 1 Million Visitors. If each article costs 10000 INR to take it to live – including SEO, Design & Publishing Costs then I require 1000*10000= 1,00,00,000 INR to make it a success.
Following are the metrics you have to look at before you start your SEO efforts:
- Total Budget
- Content Plan
- Resource Plan
- Execution Time
- Expected Results
For Example here is the sample roadmap for 1 Million Visitors.
2. So How Does The Google Algorithm Actually Work?
This part plays a crucial role in driving traffic to your website.
Once you publish content or make a web page live on your site, Google will rank your web page and show it to a small set of users.
If they are not happy with your result, then Google will drop your rankings. This is the reason why you may be seeing only some clicks from Google for recent web pages on your website.
If those users are happy with your result, then Google will show it to some more users, if they are also happy then some more. This process continues and saturates at a point where your competitors have better content compared to you.
Now the Big question is “How Google will know whether users are happy or not happy“. Here it is.
If somebody clicks on your webpage and reads it, and then if they click the back button in the browser and click on another result in Google search results…. Then it’s a clear indication that user is not getting information from your webpage and went back to the search results page. This is a very clear indication to Google that user is not happy with your webpage.
Of course, we or all Google users will have a habit of checking 3 to 5 pages or sometimes more pages to get the right answer to our query. However, in such cases, Google will consider which page is getting more back button clicks and going to other search results.
For example, users who are visiting Site A got 100 clicks from Google and 50% of users clicked on the back button and then went to a different search result. Site B got 100 clicks and 40% of users clicked back button. Site B will rank on top compared to Site A.
I follow this simple rule and always make sure that users are happy with the content on my pages. I call this process “content enhancement“.Using this technique, I have been able to increase traffic by 791% for one article and 292% for another article.
3. What Is The 80/20 Rule? Why Do SEO Masters Swear By It?
What is the 80/20 Rule? For example, any business will get 80% results in their results from only 20% of their effort. Is it really possible? Yes, it is, here’s an example.
80% Results in SEO will come from Engaging Content + Quality Backlinks.
20% Results will come from Technical SEO like adding keywords, updating meta tags, improving page speed etc.
Recently I ran a survey and personally spoke with more than 50 SEO professionals over a call to know their status/understanding of SEO before I launched my training. Everyone is doing the same mistake, even the high-level publishers with big SEO teams too.
By following the 80/20 rule, I am able to drive 1,00,00 visitors within 12 months. Bought an expired domain and published 40 articles.
As it’s an expired domain with good backlinks, quality content helped in traffic increase without any SEO optimizations.
4. Tips to avoid Google Penalty
Most of us are worried about Google Penalties. However, I stopped worrying about Google penalties as I know how to make sure that Google will never penalize me. Also, I know how to recover, even if it penalizes me.
Follow the 80/20 Rule and know how the Google algorithm works, then implement the same to all pages on your site with quality backlinks and good tech built, and then you will never get penalized.
If you build a site with proper whitehat SEO, then it never gets penalized. Even though you see some drop in traffic, that only means the competition is doing a better job compared to you or is a simple Google algorithm issue, which will get rectified after a few days.
I see some founders worrying about 10% to 20% fluctuations in traffic. It’s quite common in SEO, a drop of more than 30% is something you have to worry about and fix.
Here are a few real cases where sites are penalized:
- Having Spam backlinks
- Too many pages, too thin content in each page
- Not updating Content for more than one year
- Getting more unnecessary pages indexed
- Wrong https implementation
- Too many redirections
- Hacked Websites
- The higher percentage of Dead Pages
5. High-level SEO Audit will save your life:
I strongly recommend you to do this High-level SEO Audit, every month for your website.
Traffic Growth Audit:
You have to check monthly organic traffic growth for each URL. Due to continuously changing Google algorithms and higher competitiveness in the SEO industry the chances are higher that each of your page rankings might increase or decrease which leads to a drop or growth in traffic.
Keeping an eye on all pages will help you improve the content on drop pages, and regain the lost traffic.
Of course, it will take a lot of time to create this report. I created a small tutorial which will help you get this report ready in less than 10 minutes.
Link Growth Audit:
Links are the backbone of SEO. I strongly recommend you to check your backlinks(root domains) every month.
Let’s assume that last month you have 300 backlinks to your website if you have 350 backlinks then it’s quite natural. However, if you see 500 or 1000+ Backlinks then it’s quite suspicious. Sometimes you will see 10 times more backlinks. It’s a clear indication that somebody is trying to harm your website. This personally happened with one of our websites.
Always keep an eye on new backlinks. If you find any spam backlinks, kindly add them to the disavow file.
Technical SEO Audit:
Sometimes we may overlook some technical mistakes which will lead to a drop in traffic. For example:
- Indexed pages will be higher than the original pages in the website.
- Page speed for each page will go down due to a few tech updates.
- A website will have downtime due to hosting issues.
- Hackers will install malicious scripts etc.
I strongly recommend having a weekly check for technical issues, so that you can prevent major traffic drops.
6. Build Content that ranks:
How to write content that ranks?
Most of the marketers, founders and entrepreneurs think that unique content with 2000+ words, having a lot of keywords, will rank your content on the top.
That strategy is outdated, it used to work well, 3 years ago. But not anymore. Thanks to higher competition in the SEO industry and more awareness about SEO ROI.
That’s why I always plan 10x Content… So what is 10x content?
It is a process I have created for myself and my team, it is a culmination of my years of deep understanding of SEO principles, good content creation methods and personal knowledge in this field.
Search in Google, for the most traffic keyword for a page and analyze the top 10 results for that keyword. Note down what’s great in each of results/pages. Create awesome content which is 10 times better than all top 10 results. So you will not just have to write all the points that are there in the 10 results but also something more, one that’s additional new info for the reader.
Here is the sample sheet which I follow for doing the analysis.
Here are a few techniques like writing the introduction, using AIDA technique, answering pain points, using the reverse pyramid technique etc., which will make your content stand out from the competition.
7. Hire for attitude not for skill:
I always hire people based on their attitude, so that I can train them to work later. If somebody is hired without a good attitude, it’s difficult to train them and retain them.
Hiring quality people is the biggest hurdle for any organization. Hiring the right kind of SEO professionals is much more of a headache. I interviewed more than 500 people in the past 5 years. Hardly any of them had touched 1 lakh visitors per month.
Most of the professionals are trained in the wrong way and are still following the spam SEO processes like submitting 50 directories a day etc., and are super confident that they are doing it right and getting good results.
Spam SEO will help you to get few visits like 100 or 200 or max 1000 visits a day, however, after that, it will never grow. They miss this logic as they feel the clients are getting leads and able to show some results.
Out of the 500 people, few people who know that they are doing spam because they don’t know how to do it right, I just hired them and trained them in the right direction.
Here are the Top 5 questions which I always ask, for picking the right SEO Person:
- What are the top 5 Google Ranking Factors which will have the highest impact on traffic?
- What is the traffic growth you have achieved in your best SEO Project so far?
- How are you able to achieve the above traffic? What is the strategy & process behind it? Explain in detail.
- When did the latest Google algorithm update happen i.e. both official and unofficial?
- How many links do you build per month, Give a count, method-wise?
By asking the above questions you can easily find out whether the candidate is really capable or is just faking answers. You will also have a fair understanding of his or her attitude by asking more questions about the profession and life in general.
Hi ,
This article is very nicely describes about the seo.
Thanks for sharing this.
That’s the nice article. I have a doubt on publishing the articles. U said in one sentence that you have purchased expired domain and got 1 lakh visitors in a month just by publishing 40 articles in a month?? Where did you publish the articles, in article directories?? or in your website blog or somewhere?? Please clarify on this. Thanks!
I have published those articles on blog.
Can you do SEO for my project
Hey Sangeet,
Currently my schedules are occupied with personal projects. No time to work on new projects.
Shankar sir thanks for this article. Hope will learn more from you in your next articles.
Yeah, moving further planning to publish at least one article per week. Hope I will.
Hi, I’m familiar with stylecraze. It’s getting tons of organic visitors per month.
I wonder why don’t you spending on videos? It’s in trend nowadays and Google also promoting videos in the search results. I think you should spend a small budget on it too. Well, great article. Especially budget allocation part:-)
Thank you Deepak for your suggestion. Yeah We are planning to spend on videos from long time, however existing timelines are not allowing to do that. Soon will start.
As you said Google recently started showing more video results in search, Also video is future. I am glad you liked the article.
nice
Well written article. Learned some new things.
Need more such articles with case studies.
Well done Sankar!
Thank you so much Jaidev.
Hi, You have mentioned you require 1000 articles to get 1 Million Visitors!
Is it 1 million visitors per month or year?
It’s per month.
In you article you mentioned 1000 articles and 300 links.
Don’t you think 300 links for 1000 articles too less?
It’s not even 1 link per article?
Also within how much time the 300 links has to be made?
When you have a big site, it’s very difficult to build one link per article. Quality of links will play major role than quantity of links.
Time really depends on your resources, sooner the better in SEO.
Hi Sankar,
Thanks for such a lovely piece.
Great write. Informative and easy-to-read post with data and examples. Awesome. Way to go.
All the very best!
Thank you so much Sirish.
Hey Sankar,
I am starting a blog in health and beauty niche.
Approx. how much can we earn from ads if we have 1 million visitors a month?
Thanks,
Shuvie
Hi Shuvie,
Usually for Indian traffic for every 1000 visits you will get $2 to $4, USA Traffic $4 to $6. As per above RPM’s you will get around $2000 to $4000 in India and $4000 to $6000 in USA.
Hope that helps.
I like the way you represents your stats.
Hope other will start following your strategies and stop hiding real things. Your story helped me to improve my strategies, thanks a ton.
Hi Nikhil,
I am glad that you have learned some thing from my article.
Hi There,
This was a well written article.
I have a query and may be you can answer.
Recently our sites ranking was down after G update on 16th Apr.
Our content is good so I don’t think it could be the reason!
However I do see that moz spam score for our site is 8.
I see a lot of auto-generated content sites linking to us.
Could this be the reason for drop in rankings?
We never built them on our own.
Secondly if we disavow those links then how much time would it take to see the rankings back?
Would appreciate your help!
Samuel
Hi Samuel,
It’s really difficult to figured out the reason for drop in traffic without looking at the website. Drop a message at hello@sankardatti.com, will check and get back to you.
Hi Sankar,
Do you do private consultations for clients in the US?
This is absolutely amazing.
Cheers,
Jen
Yeah, If I believe that my skill actually helps that client or project. Definitely will do. Drop a message at hello@sankardatti.com.
Thanks Sankar.
Will do.
Really good tips. As you said, we can attain the milestones(traffic) with quality content. that’s working to me. I got 60K unique visitors per month from 700 per month with in 5 months.
The content is always not king, But proper content is King in SEO.
Waiting For Your Strategies .
Yeah True Siva.
I am planning to create a viral news article website. How much money do i need to invest if i want 100k in profit every month?
Viral news game really tough to assume how much profit you will get. As it depends on so many factors like viral factors, FB reach, AD RPMs etc. I personally never tried that.
This blog provided a great understanding of S.E.O practices specially 10x content creation,
and even I think your S.E.O course is of a great value,
Looking forward to pursue your course,
Hey Sankar,
Interesting insights and really well done on reaching 25M visitors.
Could you shed some light on the link building strategies used for StyleCraze?
Also, why have you blocked Majestic? 😉
Regards.
Hi Gurbir,
We following only white hat link building i.e. outreach to hight authority publishers, participating on communities and trying to add some value to those communities, infographics etc.
Might be our tech team blocked majestic, I am also not sure about the reason. Might be majestic guys sending more requests to server.
Nice presentation to follow step by step. Everybody wants traffic from visitors through unpaid means. Emphasis on the importance of Content is neatly expressed to improve traffic to our website. Thank you for your wonderful sharing of your experience.
Such a helpful article..
Thanks ….
I guess, mom junction was started with expired or auction domain or aged domain. Do you think this 25M traffic is achievable with a new domain in 3 years, if we follow the same strategy that you had mentioned above?
For us, it took 6 years to achieve 25M visitors. In 3 years it would be very difficult as per the latest Google algorithms, Competition and also huge budgets required to have the right team in place.
Great article with lot of details on SEO.
Hello Sankar,
Google recently updated its search results on 1 uag. What are you views on this?
Does your sites saw postive or negative impact?
Hey Karthik,
This update is mostly concentrated on E-A-T i.e. Expertness-Authority-Trust
We do have 5% to 10% fluctuations in traffic, however it happens for us often. Usually Google Quality team will monitor the fluctuations and make few improvements if they found any errors. We will get clarity in a week regarding the updates. As of now we are on the safe side.
Hi,
Greetings to all.
Thanks for this amazing post.
I have one doubt.
I am running a blog related to electrical and electronics engineering.
Most of the time I can’t publish 500 plus words but I can post more contents.
Should I concentrate on Number of posts or number of word count?
Thanks in an advance.
Regards,
ABISHEK
Hi Abhishek,
I strongly recommend to concentrate publishing more word count with quality information as it helps to rank higher in Google.
I totally agree with you. The best Roadmap/Strategy drives more traffic to our website. I have more than 10 years of experience in the digital marketing field and I hardly reach 1 lac visitors for the month. After that, the first thing I didn’t get a chance to work more on the same website. Because sometimes clients asked us to hold on SEO activities for a few months. The second reason is that we have limited scope and lots of restrictions from clients. The content is playing a key role in SEO.
Thank you for your wonderful sharing of your experience. I want to learn more from digital experts like you. Please share with me your course material.
Yeah True Srinivas. Educating clients is most important task in SEO, even I have faced the same problem in early days of my SEO career.
Sure, will share the course details with you.
I was also having problem in driving traffic from google.your content is helpful.
Hi Sankar,
So do you think that content (the right content) is the major way to drive organic traffic? How do we produce the right content?
Yes Nitin, Content and Links these are the two plays major role in getting organic traffic.
Producing right content will take lot of effort like understanding user personas, pain points etc. Then you have to create great content by addressing those issues.
Other simple method – Just enter the keyword which you want to rank for in Google and analyse top 10 results carefully one by one. Now create content better than all of those competitors who ranking for the keyword you targeted.
Nice article and Very well explained.
But I slightly don’t agree with the bounce rate affecting the rankings. As it varies across industries .
Suppose if I am a developer and I am looking for a certain technical solution then 99 out 100 people will immediately leave the site once they get the solution for what they want ,same applies for single landing page.
But in case of bloggin/retail/e-commerce industry the bounce rate will be minimal.
I have a tech site and an education blog I can clearly see the difference in bounce rate.
You are right Sumeet, Bounce rate is not a ranking factor at all.
Problem comes when search user is not happy and bounce back to another search result.
Bounce rate is different from leaving your site and going for another search result.
Worth reading your article. I find you a better person also as you are replying every single question.
I am running 2 blogs and want to go for press release in order to get media coverage and link of course.
I doubt if so many links together will harm my website ranking as by press release distribution so many links are created at a single time.
Please suggest me how to go ahead.
Thanks
Hi Anup,
I recommend to go for press mentions than press releases. Most of the old press release sites Google already blacklisted. If you are able to get mentions from times of india, Entrepreneur magazine, huffington post, Forbes Magazine, Your Story etc will be helpful for SEO.
Thank you so much for you time.
Hi am Rohini internship student am doing backlinks through blogs nd I ve no results..
Hi Rohini,
Results will depend on quality of backlinks and also the quality of your website content. Please check for those two factors too then you will know what to fix.
Hi sankar,
Everybody wants traffic from visitors through unpaid means. Emphasis on the importance of Content is neatly expressed to improve traffic to our website.
Also I want to know why you said spam SEO doesn’t work?
Hi Mady,
Spam SEO definitely will not work in the longer run.
Thanks a lot !. I recently got my 1st blog, I am trying to get to the core of SEO. I am trying to figure out the 20% . Hope to read more of your articles. Is it helpful to get a paid link building service ? As links are so important and getting around 200 quality links is a significant task.
Hi Suvasree,
I strongly recommend that don’t go for paid links. Google can easily identify it. You can pay some professionals to approach blogs and to write quality content for you. However don’t pay directly to the bloggers to publish your article with link.
Hope you understood the difference.
How long will it take to get 1 lakh visitors for a new website by publishing 3 to 4 articles per week? Does getting traffic only from social media platforms harm the blog? Will it help in getting Adsense approval for the website? I am pretty new to blogging and hardly anyone replies to anyone like you do. Great gesture.
Hi Uttam,
Getting 1 lakh visitors to a new website depends on so many factors i.e. Content quality, Backlinks Quality, Competitors strength. It’s very difficult to answer in few words as it will take at least a week research to prepare a proper strategy.
Driving traffic from social media platforms will not harm your blog for sure. Again Adsense will depend on different factors. Social media traffic will not directly help to get the adsense approval.
As you are new to blogging, Kindly spend enough time to understand how SEO works.
Regards
Sankar Datti
No doubt really a great article.
Good insights Mr. Sankar. Would love to know how you work on link building.
Thanks,
Asif
Hi Mohammed,
I replied to anji about link building. Please check.
Shankar Garu,
Please share me how to get quality back links for any website ?
Am new to SEO…
Hi Anji,
I recommend to follow below methods to get quality backlinks
1. Manual Outreach (Guest Posting)
2. Participate Discussions in Forums & QA Sites
3. Create high quality infographics
4. If possible build tools or small calculators if applicable to your niche.
I like your Blog Sankar, Yes you are Very well explained, very helpful for everyone
Thanks
Thanks Altaf Khan.
Nice post please send me all lesson regularly
Hi Sumedh,
I am planning weekly or monthly newsletters to my subscribers soon.
Very nice article sankar sir,I am a newbie and my website is jobs releted site.so my content less 300 words then my site not suitable for seo ranking ?
Another Question is”can I replaced exiting WordPress site to HTML site ? Yes then how ? Please reply me sir, thank again.
Hi Jadumani,
In Jobs case it’s really different as it’s seasonal content. However I recommend to create ever green pages and then update them whenever you get a new job posting. For example you have post an article realted to Sub Inspector Vacancies. Next year if you have another Sub inspector vacancies then use the same page and update the content so that you will not lose SEO value.
WordPress is always good for SEO. You don’t have to change to HTML.
Regards
Sankar
nice article.
it’s necessary to buy already existing domain to rank it in a year or a newly purchased domain can also grab the traffic of 1 M in a year? Kindly suggest the same!!
Hi Deepak,
Getting 1M Visitors in an year is very difficult at the moment. If you have very high budgets or seasonal content then only it’s possible. Minimum 3 years required to make a million as per latest Google algorithms. It’s my personal opinion and it will vary from niche to niche.
i like your arrival. it is very helpful for SEO tutorial. let me know i have 25 website. but visitor is very slow. can your help me?
Hi Mukesh,
I strongly recommend to concentrate and put your all efforts on one website first. It’s very difficult to manage 25 websites.
Fantastic article with real insights! Great effort and very useful inputs. Keep sharing such useful articles
Thanks Geetha
Shankar,
I am really amazed to read your content. Specially the 10x formula and the Google Mechanism of ranking any page for keywords step by step.
Hope to get a tons of Ideas from you in near future. Eagerly waiting!!!
Sure Nirmalya Ghosh. Thanks.
yes, content is very important for ranking and traffic, but we can also focus (Target) on top 11-50 rank possession keywords for first page. Most of People focus on long tail, generic and high competitive keywords, but they forget, what is the most relevant keywords for your web page in Google eyes. In my opinion, we want to go with the flow, but make sure the flow is relevant.
True Jassi.
Hello Sankar,
This is indeed a great post and I must say you have shared some unique tips and strategies here. I’m sure no one on the web has shared this type of in-depth process.
BTW I was gonna ask you where do you hire quality writers? and maybe affordable too.
Hi Sohail,
Hiring good content writers and SEO professionals is always tough job. Sometimes freshers write better compared to experienced professionals, You have to interview more people and pick the best one. This is the only solution. As you are looking for affordable, go for freshers.
Regards
Sankar Datti
It’s really helpful for me like a fresher to know more about seo backlin and it’s strategy.. Looking forward tips like this for your side sir..
Sure Karthik.
Thanks for sharing useful information
Hi Shankar, hope you well m getting very helpful information from your niche.
Just ask for some backbone of Seo such about backlink so how many links allow per day for white hat Seo ? On current base I create total 40 link per day from different ways like directory submission , local listing, web2.0 etc.
Hi Ronak,
Directory submissions and web 2.0 pages are old traditional methods which not working anymore now. I strongly recommend to stop them immediately and add all low quality links to disavow file. Concentrate on building high quality links like guest posting, adding value to forums and infographics etc. For your information, we build not more than 5 to 10 links per week to our sites.
Regards
Sankar Datti
Great Article Sir, just want to know how does a start up with limited budget go about things? Like if i have a budget of only 10,000rs how can spent it wisely on content generation and seo
Hi Manmeet,
Budget of 10,000/- too less for SEO. If your business is targeting local then you can invest that money on improving local listing with high quality images.
Regards
Sankar Datti
Hi Sankar,
I am into digital marketing for the last 2 years and have done some research on quality traffic generation. However, understanding the Google algorithm working model was a real challenge. Your article was nice and helped me in understanding the traffic generation better.
Thanks for sharing.
Good article
Hi Sankar,
I have been doing SEO for nine years. After nine years I found someone from India who very relevant to bring traffic and rankings by using white hat methods. It’s not embarrassing to me that I’m free today that I have learned something from your blog. I have been doing the same method for a couple of years. I have reached 25L traffic on a monthly basis for my client. Most of clients not ready to spend on actual needs. That’s why quality SEOs unable to reach their success. Thank you so much for this information. I will wait for another blog and your knowledge.
Thanks
Amrit
True Amrit, It’s our responsibility to educate clients about the required budgets and the potential ROI. I too faced this issue in the early stages of my career.
Regards
Sankar Datti
Hi Sankar,
Thanks for sharing such useful information. It’s really helping to SEOs.
As you mentioned 25 backlinks per month in your SEO plan, how you distribute them? 25 backlinks to homepage or 25 backlinks to any particular article post or 25 backlinks to different article posts?
Please elaborate on link building
Hi Kavita,
I usually recommend to build links to different article posts, so that you will get traffic across the site.
Great article I like it.
Lot of information which I am lack of. I am a beginner so it is too much beneficial for me .
Thanks a lot for sharing this high quality content.
Can you please let me know how can we decide on which topic will write an article/blog. How can we increase the ROI of our business?
Or How can i grow my website traffic?
Hi Rajan,
Always go for topics which have higher traffic potential and lower competition. I tried it multiple times, it worked everytime.
Hi,
$firstly I would like to say that you have really shared wonderful article. Now I would like to 1 question that how can improver organic traffic for local listing website. I have already create back links, optimised meta tags.
Hi Rahul,
If you login to your Google Business Listings dashboard, you will see all suggestions what improvements can be done. Start working on those suggestions first, you will quick improvements in rankings. I tried it personally to one of my friend who is doctor. Now he is getting every month 50 walk-ins.
Mostly reviews play major role in rankings. If possible try to get longer reviews.
Hello Mr Shankar,
Your article is comprehensive and there is a lot to learn from it, a lot more practical and different from others say about seo strategies. Thank you so much for sharing it…eagerly waiting for your next article…
I want to tell you that my niche is mental health…I write about topics on self improvement and self realization.
But the problem is I write straight from my heart, and my blog is not rich in keywords. My blog is 1.5 years old with a DA of 10 and homepage PA being 13.
I want to ask…
1. Considering traffic for this blog, whether I should go with SEM or SMM?
2. The advertisement medium on my blog are Adsense and Media.net…how much time it will take for my blog to start earning?
Your kind response awaited…
Regards
Hi Amanpreet,
As I mentioned in my article including keywords in article plays only 20% role, quality of content is 80% important.
1. To get quick traffic concentrate on long tail traffic. Make sure that topic should have low competition and higher potential.
2. SEM is costly which is not recommended for Adsense blogs. SMM will work if you have good Facebook pages with more likes
3. It’s really difficult to answer the time to earn money because it’s completely depends on your quality of articles and SEO efforts.
Regards
Sankar Datti
Hi Mr. Sankar,
Thanks a lot for sharing these amazing tips. I have started a travel blog and these will hopefully help. I have some questions which I’d be glad if you could answer –
– Do too many no-follow links or bad quality backlinks hurt? I read many blogs and put my link where asked for (definitely not in the text). I know these won’t have any impact(positive) on my ranking but will it have any negative side?
-Comment swaps on relevant articles, how does it work. neutral, positive or negative?
– If I update my article too frequently experimenting with title or meta tags, does it hurt?
– most importantly, if content and backlinks matter the most, self-hosting is not that important, or is it?
Hi Sinjana,
1. Too many no-follow links won’t hurt your site, However having 500 no-follow links and zero do-follow links will not look natural to Google. In such cases Google algorithm can easily understand that you are doing some spamming which might hurt your rankings.
2. You can always comment on relevant articles if it looks natural and make sense. I never heard of comment swaps.
3. Updating title and meta tags of an article will not have major impact on rankings.
4. If your hosting is able to handle your traffic and not making your site down frequently then it’s good enough.
Hope all you questions answered.
Hi,
Thanks for the great article. What are your views on SEO for other languages like Hindi or regional languages?
Regional Languages has highest potential in India. Especially Hindi, I strongly feel that “This is that right time to start regional sites”.
Hi Shankar,
I am also an SEO guy and worked in this industry from last 10 years. But these days, its very tuff to get quality backlinks even for quality content rich pages. When you use Manual Outreach for sharing your article or send a request for a Guest post then everybody wants $50-$100 for giving you a link. Because everybody knows you are looking for a link and SEM.
So, how do you plan a quality Guest Post link with the related content in these days or if you have other methods to get the quality backlink, please share with us!
thanks in advance
Hi Kamal,
I agree with you that most of bloggers will ask for money to give a link. Even I personally saw this while doing guest posting for our sites. I recommend to approach international bloggers because most of them will look for quality of the content but not for money.
Also you have to initially work hard to get some links from high authority sites like Huffington post or mindbodygreen etc. Once you get a link from high authority site then you can approach other bloggers by stating that “I am author at huffington post”. Our response rates has been increased by 10 times after we did this.
Good info. How to make $100? Is it really tough?
I don’t think making $100 is tough. Which niche you are targeting and what monetisation method you are using, will decide how much you will be earning.
Hi Sankar,
Thanks for the great article. Can we use free blogs for our articles like Blogspot?
Will this help if we are not in the position to invest money.
Regards
Hi Indu,
You can always start with free blogs like blogspot, However I recommend to purchase custom domain for blogspot which won’t cost much. Readers will trust main domains than blogspot sites.
Thank you 🙂

Awesome article. Do you recoommend posting all the articles (84) in a month? Also, what are the tips for further promotings these articles.
For link growth audit, which tools you recommend?
Hi Neha,
Yes, you can publish 84 articles in a month. However make sure to build high quality links and get some traffic to those pages. Best ways to promote articles through social channels, Email outreach, Participating in forums etc. I recommend ahrefs.com for link growth audit.
hey,
I am confuse with your words and works. if you are so much capable to do seo and make huge organic traffic, then why you run FB ads..
Apply your skills in the SEO niche also, so you could get organic traffic to make your seo course sale.
I am highly appreciate your information you given here, but the simple confusion is asking only.
Hi Neeraj,
Everyone curious about “why I am running facebook ads, if I am good at SEO”.
The answer is simple. We all know, how to cook and make some food at home, however still we go to restaurants either to save time or to have better taste.
I am also doing the same thing, I don’t have time and want to get some quick feedback to my course. To know in-detail read below:
1. I already have so many projects to handle which are giving higher returns to me, so my personal blog i.e. sankardatti.com is not a priority to me. However many people are requesting me from the past 2 years to give SEO training. That’s the main reason I am planning to make an SEO Course.
2. As you know SEO traffic will take time to build, If I start building SEO traffic now then it will easily take another year to get good traffic. Instead of waiting for one more year, I thought just run ads and make limited people to join in my SEO Course and show them some results then slowly build SEO traffic in the longer run.
Hope you got the answer.

Really Nice Article….Can you please how you maintain your ROI?
Hi Akshay,
We use different monetisation methods i.e. Ads, Brand Sales, Ecommerce.
Hello shankar sir,
Really it’s a great article after googling and reading so many articles on SEO.
I have something to ask you that I have blog with small ecommerce store. I write blog post related to product which I sell, sometimes my article content goes above 1000 words and sometimes 200 – 300 words based on the solution providing through individual articles on my products.
My question is what to do in this matter if my article content is below 1000 words, should I keep on update same articles by attaching some more content or should stop joining two different solutions in single article?
Thanks again for such a great article. Waiting for your precious reply
Hi Syed,
Google loves comprehensive content which is more than 1500 words. Lot of experts also analysed and confirmed that longer content will rank well.
I recommend to combine articles, however make sure that theme would be the same. For example if you are selling laptops then blog article might be something “Top 5 Laptops with Longest battery life”, Also you can write top 10 or top 25.
This is the thing which keeps readers engaged. Thank you very much for quick reply.
Now I will shortlist and try to combine my similar articles content to touch 1000-1500 words ASAP.
I like your article very much and this post is motivational for me as well.
keep writing such kind of post. thanks
very nice see our Indian blogger getting experimenting like this on SEO.Thanks for the blog.
Deep analyze very good article
This is the real person no one shares real information like this one. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Sankar,
We have a site with only three page and little content, named fotonvr.
Kindly suggest how to attract traffic from USA, UAE, India, and UK.
It is a company website for virtual reality in education.
Thank you for your article, it is really helpful.
Hi Vijay,
Content is new SEO. Without content it’s really difficult to drive traffic. I strongly recommend to have at least 50 pages with good content to see some good traffic.
You said 300 links got your 25 million visitors right? How many did you build within 1 month? How did you approach about getting the backlinks, is it just guest post with quality content having anchor text, did you think about factors like DA, TF & much more. Could you be more elaborate here.
Hi Raj,
That 300 links is an example number for 1 Million Visitors blueprint. Backlinks number will change based on competition and your niche. Doesn’t mean I got 1 million or 25 million visitors from 300 backlinks.
Always we try to give the best quality content while doing guest posting. We never really bother much about anchor text or TF. However we make sure that respective site should be good in terms of content, backlinks.
Well explained article. As an optimiser I learned some new things. Thank you.
